10hr Service Learning Check

1. Name of the place they are working.
I am doing my service learning at Fremont Academy in Pomona.

2. Summary of what you are doing there.
What I do is basically just observe Coach Cammon and Coach Valentine teach the team basic fundamentals, drills, and plays. The coaches also allow me to correct the players and give them tips if I see them doing something wrong and teach them some of the tricks I have learned throughout my years of playing basketball. The coaches also have me scrimmage and practice with the team.

3. What is the most important thing you’ve learned so far?
I have learned a lot of things so far this week of service learning. I have learned that I shouldn't let the players call me by my first name but to have them call me Coach Teves or coach because this lets them know that they need to give me respect. I learned a lot of different shooting, passing, defensive, and offensive drills. I think I learned a variety of things but the most important thing is that coaching these kids or a basketball team in general takes time and I need to have patience because it will get pretty frustrating on the court when they can't get a certain drill or play. Also, to remember to speak up and have confidence because this is how the players will start to trust and respect me and to never bring a player down but to always encourage them.
